I commend the fresh perspective on an old classic (in reference to both the novel and Adventism). Well written, Jillian.

A good start is to begin open and honest debate and discussion about what you believe, what they (we) believe, how those believes came to be, why they differe and then perhaps start to figure out from there.

I have seen some particularly strident and triumphal SDA literature and tracts against a lot of things some think the Church teaches. Often times it is fairly inaccurate. I am also old enough to remember an SDA sponsored billboard of an edited photo of Billy Graham dressed in a Roman collar... The point of the protest billboard was to demonstrate displeasure that Graham would work with Catholics during one of his stadium events. If we could start to leave stuff like that in the past... That is a good first step.

Last Sunday I was brought to tears when I read from the Acts of Apostles, where it says that the early Christians had all things in common, selling their possessions and good and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. Is this a message that many religions had at one time, or maybe still do? Or do religions today go off in an entirely new direction, being judgmental or self righteous? People Power Granny's inquiring mind wants to know.
